Changes to the CAT Qualification
Minor changes to the Advanced Level papers (5-10)
21 Aug 2008
From June 2009, there will be some minor changes to the Advanced Level papers of the Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) Qualification.
- The pass mark will be increased from 40% to 50%.
- All exams will include some multiple-choice questions (MCQs)
- 24% of Paper 5 will become MCQs (two-hour exam)
- 20% of Papers 6–10 will become MCQs (three-hour exams).
The overall syllabus for the qualification will remain unchanged, although some material from Paper 7 will be moving to Paper 10.
As the majority of CAT students automatically progress to the ACCA Qualification, the change to the pass mark brings the CAT Qualification in line with that for the ACCA Qualification. It is also educational best practice to ensure that CAT students are technically competent by correctly answering at least half of the exam paper.
