Making the connection
How PER links to the exam syllabus
02 Sep 2008
It is vital that trainees (students and affiliates) understand that gaining their ACCA Qualification doesn’t simply start and finish with their exams; to become a professional accountant requires a combination of knowledge, ethics and experience.
The practical experience requirements (PER) ensure that any capabilities trainees develop through their studies will have a clear application in the workplace. Good news for students and good news for employers.
As a tuition provider, you have a close relationship with ACCA trainees and are well-placed to ensure they realise the importance of PER as they begin their ACCA journey. Highlighting this connection in the classroom will ensure students think about relating their performance objectives to the papers they are either currently studying or have recently studied, making sure that knowledge and skills are developed simultaneously.
This extra practical knowledge can help improve performance in the classroom and give students the edge in exams with real-life examples. Better exam results for students means better results for tutors too.
When starting a new class, remind students which performance objectives link to the paper they are studying.
